From seed to meditation cushion in 8 steps
The fun part of a product that is produced locally, is that you exactly know how it gets created. Do you want to know how flax grows and why it’s really good for the Earth? Then look at the 7 steps down here from flaxseed to your meditation cushion.
Step 1: planting and growing
The flaxseed gets planted in March. How fast the seed grows depends on the weather. Flax has long roots and can grow to 1 meter high.
Step 2: picking and retting
After about 100 days the plant gets picked out of the ground. This causes for a good base structure. And that’s good for the earth! The retting process of the plant gets decided by the Earth, dew, rain and sun decides. This causes so that the fiber gets loosen of the woody stem.
Step 3: editing the fiber until spinning the wire
The wooden loam gets hit of the fiber. The flax that is left gets combed until the purest flax remains. After that the flax gets spun. Nothing gets thrown away or wasted. The wooden loams that remain get used in loam plates for example. The process of flax is absolute zero waste.
Step 4: weaving
From wire to cloth. A very accurate process. The same goes for this: everything will be used.
Step 5: quality control
Every meter of the cloth gets precisely checked so the constant and outstanding quality of the flax is guaranteed.
Step 6: dyeing and finishing cloth
The cloth can still feel rough. That’s why it gets shaved, so it feels nice.
Flax has a natural tint on its own. It can also be dyed and can be treated with different finishings, to get the right look and feel that fits your interior. And finally, there is a last inspection to guarantee the colour consistency. The fabric will be checked by hand to see if it feels good.
Step 7: processing until cushion
The cloth is ready. Time to bring it to one of our local businessmen to make a comfortable meditation cushion out of the cloth. Made by hand, with full attention your resting point gets created.
